GULF LONGLINE CAMPAIGN

Cameron Jaggard presented on the Pew Environment Group's Surface campaign on the Gulf of Mexico Surface Longline Fishing. The presentation was well received by STPS members and there was unanimous support for the campaign at the meeting. The recommendation by Pew is to close the Gulf of Mexico to surface longlining and encourage the newer techniques that have very limited by-catch as opposed to the current techniques that are at and above 50%. STPS will be placing post-cards that you can send to NOAA in the STPS office for members to fill out and send in if they wish. Also, you can go to www.PewEnvironment.org/GulfTuna for more information.
