Juvenile green and loggerheads are often seen in Florida coastal waters and within the Indian River Lagoon. Juvenile turtles, and older immature turtles call sub-adults, may use several different bays, estuaries, and coastal areas as they develop. These areas may range along Florida or even into the Bahamas and the Caribbean.
Scientists estimate that sea turtles reach reproductive maturity in 15 to 50 years. Maturity depends largely on nutrition. Female sea turtles return to the same nesting beach during their next nesting season and it is believed to be the same beach they hatched on a few decades before!
